A Note from Ruby’s Parents
When our daughter Ruby was born, she suffered a profound brain injury. She struggled in the Neonatal ICU. And when she came home, we were told that the prognosis was grim. The brain injury had caused cerebral palsy, cortical visual impairment, hearing loss, a seizure disorder, severe sleeping and feeding difficulties and many other medical and developmental challenges.
We have spent most of the past 5+ years researching Ruby’s diagnoses, managing doctors, hospitals and therapies, finding and traveling for special therapies, fiercely advocating, and loving her like crazy. So far, she has exceeded every doctor’s expectations, by FAR. We are both in awe and completely in love with her (it’s easy to fall in love with her). She works very hard with a team of teachers and therapists all day long, 5 days a week. And she rocks.
It’s been a challenging five years. But it’s also been a tremendous opportunity for us to learn and grow. We’ve been lucky to have a supportive community and an incredible group of friends. Crisis brings out a lot of love in a lot of people.
Thank you so much for being here and for helping Ruby.
